My sister and I recently returned home from an incredible European adventure, which began in the Netherlands! We left Toronto, with bags that were far too heavy (note to self: pack lighter) bound for Holland.
Our flight was amazing because we got the whole row to ourselves! We flew on Airtransat, which I would definitely recommend for relatively cheap flights across the pond.
We stayed at the Apollo Museum Hotel, which was right near the main museum called Rijksmuseum. The best thing about Amsterdam is how easy it is to get around, We did lots of walking and even rented bicycles from the hotel. The bikers are crazy and there are special lanes for the bike traffic!
What we did-
I would totally recommend doing a hop-on-hop-off canal cruise because we were able to see the main tourist spots without having to walk too much, and we knew exactly where to go.
The best day in the Netherlands was complete with windmills and some shoes. We took an uber ride to Zaanse Schans, which is a town about 45 minutes outside the city that has some incredible windmills and a shoe factory, if you're headed to Amsterdam you can't miss this.
We saw Amsterdam from the canals and from the sky at the a'dam lookout, which is the highest swing in Europe- thrill seekers must do this!
Where we ate-
We had some amazing food in amsterdam including a verrrry fancy night at Mr. Porter's, which is a steakhouse at the top of the W hotel. Our favorite lunch was at Blueamsterdam, we had the best view complete with fries and rosé!
My favorite part-
While walking on a random street, the craziest thing happened.. I ran into my friend Alex who I met while doing a summer college program at Pace University in New York City! It was so awesome to see her, and in Amsterdam of all places! She is studying fashion as well.
It was a great time in Amsterglam!
