I have been away from blogging basically the last 10 months and I am so ready to get back into the swing of things and to start publishing more content. Between school and working I have very little free time and unfortunately bloggings gets put on the back burner.
I haven't done an official "life update" post before and I figured it is probably time to dig a little deeper into what I've been up to and share more than y'all see on my Instagram.
My first year at SCAD so far has been incredible and insane at the same time. This year went by so fast! I have one more week of classes, portfolio week and then I am done until the middle of July. (I am taking a summer class) I will share my summer plans and travels later this week! Hint- I am not going back to Pennsylvania for the summer.
I had my first fashion class this quarter and I put every miniute of free time into the class. My professor is the chair of fashion at SCAD and he is crazy knowledgeable and influential in every single way. I have worked so hard and really am hoping that he will love my final garment and collection.
I shared on my instagram stories last week that my MacBook hard drive crashed and I literally had to put my life on hold until I got it back. I am grateful that most of my files were recoverable and that my professors were understanding about the projects that were due. You never know how much you rely on technology until you don't have it to use.
The transition from being a Lilly customer to working retail for Lilly (Palm Avenue) was a big shift. Seeing all of the hard work that goes into one order and all of the steps was such a learning process and I feel like I have caught on really well. Going to college and working and trying to find that balance has been great. (working on an entire post about this)
My goal when I graduate from SCAD is to work at the "Pink Palace" in Philly for Lilly. Getting my feet wet working and getting more familar with the retail side felt like a good move for me.
I have a chronic illines where my body does not reproduce red blood cells or iron, so about every 3-6 months I get infusions to keep me healthy. On top of that, I get weekly vitamin shots as well as IV fluid to keep me "On The Go."
I have been feeling amazing. My levels are the best they have been in three years and I am so thankful for the nurses and doctors who go above and beyond to keep me healthy. I will most likly need iron in August ish so they are keeping track of my levels every two weeks so I don't have the issues that I did when I was in high school.
If you didn't see, my mama and I ran a half marathon in Feburary at Disney and it was the most empowering weekend of my life. Going from someone who seriously couln't get through an entire day of school without taking a nap, to running 13.1 miles.... I am still on a high. Plus just knowing what I am capable of.
My two best friends, Kristen and Kristina, both do Orange Theory and have tried to get me to go with them, but after talking with my doctor, she said she wanted me to do something that wasn't so high impact on the body. I then heard about Pure Barre and took my first class a little over a month ago and I was hooked. I try to go 3 times a week.
Everyone always says that you have more energy when you workout and I never thought it was actually true, but I am hear to tell you, it is one hundred percent! I feel the best I have before I got sick and I have way more energy than before.
My sweet boy is almost a year and weighs 20 pounds! I love him so stinkin' much and I am sad to know he isn't really a puppy anymore. He really is the best boy, except for that he chews everything!!!!!! We are trying to work on it, so if you have any tips, please let me know!!
Getting a dog in college isn't really the "typical" way of doing things, but I am not a normal college student (no one at SCAD is) and I always will do whatever I feel is best for my life. yes, it is a huge responsibility, but I feel I adapted well.
I am spending the last week in my current apartment. I love it so much, but I currently have a 45+ minute drive every morning due to traffic and it drives me insane. I found the cutest one bedroom right next to Forsyth Park. I will be able to walk (or ride my scooter) to class and work.
I truly love the apartment I am in. I starting packing last night and I am significantly more sad than I expected myself to be. This was my first little place to call my own and just the feeling of indepenence that came along with it. I cannot wait to show y'all my new place though and know I will be happy living right downtown. I struggled with not feeling like a "college student", but I knew when I moved to Savannah that I would not get the typical college experice at an art school.
This year away from my family (and Meals) has been such a good one. I needed desperately to get away and to make a life of my own and that is exactly what I did. I have grown so much in this last year and I know there is so much more to come.
That is all for the update! Thank you to all of y'all for always following along and for keeping me inspired to be the best version of myself.
